In growing up, I remember grandma always being at our
house. Just for a weekend visit or sometimes staying a whole week.
I later learned it was papa’s temper that she was getting away from. For
whatever reason, I’m sure there were other places she could go but she loved us
too much not to come see us…..gee. wish I didn’t have to work and could
dote on my grandkids the way she did us.
I remember when we took summer vacations, her going with
us. Picture this: a country squire station wagon, pee green in
color with a wood side panel. Driving down the road pulling a coachmen
travel trailer. If you looked inside the car as you went by you saw dad
driving, mom in the front passenger side. A small child in the front
middle. The second and third row…yes these old station wagons had a third
seat that unfolded in the very back. Between the second and third seat
you had grandma and 5 more kids. One summer we traveled across country to
California and back. Along the way we picked up a new transmission….lol
The following year we traveled south to keywest florida.
Yep, grandma was with us again too.
