Ross Family is Moving!

Well summer is almost over and it has been great! So fun seeing family :)
Jordan is still really busy with school and work and his classes are going well. We especially like Thursdays when he gets to stay home with us and do homework.

I'm having a baby shower this week! I love having an excuse to get together and just visit. I wish all of you faraway family could come!!!

Jordan and I bought a townhouse! Its in Magna, UT. That's about half an hour north of my parent's house. This is a view from the outside. I'll post pictures when we move in about mid October. Its two level, 1 1/2 bathrooms, three bedrooms, and comes with all of the kitchen appliances. We are still working on getting a washer and dryer but we bought a sweet black vynl couch off KSL for $10 and last night we picked up a nice king size mattress and box spring from a couple in South Jordan for free! I love FREE things! Its really nice when we know we are going to need to be on a tight budget with all these new expenses. :)

This is my little cutie looking all patriotic for September 11th.

Jordan said we should frame this one. She is just so stinkin adorable. She is rocking her new kicks that Grandpa Ross got for her. He sure likes to spoil

We gave her a piece of corn to feed to the horses and she more just teased them with it. :)

And last but not least, I am 35 weeks along. Can't believe I only have 5 weeks left! The doctor will be checking my progress on Thursday so we'll see how it goes! We are very excited for this little one to join our family. We are so richly blessed.

Ross Family Updates

Hello family!!!
Thanks Aunt Robin for setting this up. I hope people get into posting more because I would love to be updated on all of you that are so far away!
Here in Utah, Jordan and I just celebrated our 2 year anniversary. And my how wonderful these two years have been. We are currently living in my parents basement and saving up for a house. Our little Ellie isn't so little anymore. She is 15 1/2 months and is a light to all around her. It is so fun to watch her learn and grow! I'm grateful to have the opportunity to spend my days with her!

I am pregnant with a little sister for Ellie and she is expected to arrive October 22nd. We are so very much looking forward to our family growing. P.S. this dress used to belong to Grandma Ellie :)

Jordan is finishing the last few weeks of his summer internship at an education software company called True North Logic. They have asked him to remain with the company after the internship as a member of their quality assurance team. He works so hard and it is paying off! He is currently pursuing his bachelors degree in computer science at University of Utah and starts back to school the end of this month.

She sure loves her daddy!

This picture is from a dinner night out to announce we are expecting a girl. On most days Jordan wouldn't be caught dead wearing pink! ;)
Hope to see posts from more of you soon! Have a great rest of your summer! Love you all!!!

Will's summer so far.

Other than just a few ho-hum days, Will has been pretty active.
  • Just finishing up AAU travel basketball
  • A week in South Carolina on youth mission trip
  • At Camp Virginia for summer camp for 3 weeks.  Camp Virginia is in Goshen, near Lexington, VA.  Beautiful mountain surroundings.  The cabin picture above is the cabin he stays in - no A/C.
  • The week after he returns home he will be attending basketball camp at VCU, with Shako Smart.  I think this will be the highlight of his summer.
  • August 20th, school starts.....then Kevin and I get to relax
Spencer is relaxing from college life for the summer.  Too homesick at Liberty U., he's going to hang closer to home this fall at John Tyler CC, and has changed his career path to Nursing.  If he had just listened to me two years ago he  would be half way there....lol

Daniel graduated from Liberty U. this past May.  He is interning as a youth pastor this summer, while looking for a full time position.

So what's your summer been like?

Have Grandma, Will Travel

In growing up, I remember grandma always being at our house.  Just for a weekend visit or sometimes staying a whole week.  I later learned it was papa’s temper that she was getting away from.  For whatever reason, I’m sure there were other places she could go but she loved us too much not to come see us…..gee.  wish I didn’t have to work and could dote on my grandkids the way she did us.

I remember when we took summer vacations, her going with us.  Picture this:  a country squire station wagon, pee green in color with a wood side panel.  Driving down the road pulling a coachmen travel trailer.  If you looked inside the car as you went by you saw dad driving, mom in the front passenger side.  A small child in the front middle.  The second and third row…yes these old station wagons had a third seat that unfolded in the very back.  Between the second and third seat you had grandma and 5 more kids.  One summer we traveled across country to California and back.  Along the way we picked up a new transmission….lol

The following year we traveled south to keywest florida.  Yep, grandma was with us again too.

First Glance

I vaguely remember her telling me the first time she and Papa Harris met was at a corner store.  He and his ma were coming out and she was going in.  sorry, maybe I have it written down in my notes.

!!!!!!!Can you add more detail to this?

Courting Elma

I have pictures of an old barn and the name of the farm.  I believe it’s the same dairy farm mentioned above.  If I drive to the country, I can see the name of the farm and be able to tell you.  Grandma and I drove back there none too long ago.  The old homestead is still there.  The normal two story brick colonial style home.  What really amazed me is how the barn was constructed.  This same barn that Papa Lowry, my great grandfather and his father worked in.  The lower half was built of masonry, three quarters of the wall structure.  The remaining above it being made of wood.  When I saw it, not more than a year ago with her, it is in mint condition.  No longer used as a dairy barn but for storage.

In driving into the farm, a long winding road lined with trees and fenced fields on both sides, there was a field to the right.  Grandma pointed out the now open field use to be an apple orchard.  When Papa Harris started courting grandma, they use to take walks through the apple orchard.

Hobos Pay A Visit

One story that always comes back to mind is when she was not much more than a toddler.  Papa lowry (her dad), his dad and his brother all worked on a dairy farm.  They didn’t own it but managed it.  Can’t remember the name right off.  Anyway, all the men were gone to work the dairy leaving nanny lowry and elma (grandma) at the house alone….nothing unusual, just another day in the life of a farmer.

There must have been two hobos watching the house as they knew Elma and Nanny were there.  Behind the house was a large creek with brush growing up the side of the bank.  Nanny seeing the men, scooped Elma up and took the path down by the creek and hid in the bushes.  I guess Nanny grabbed some tomatoes while sneaking out of the house to keep Elma quiet (snacking) while in hiding.

Nanny heard the men on the bank talking that they knew Nanny and Elma were there but they couldn’t find them.  They went through the house looking for what they could take.  I think she said papa had some change in his dirty overalls.  Once nanny felt safe, they left the creek bank and went in search of the men at the dairy.

I believe also after a time, Papa Lowry’s mother that came to live with them in that same house.  I remember grandma saying all she brought with her in the way of belongings were a set of dishes that had been handed down through the family.  Unfortunately the house at some time burned and everything was lost.  Everyone had gotten out safely.

Stories about Grandma

Hey folks.

So, I've been thinking for a while about starting a family blog.  I've never done this before so it should be interesting to start out.  I've got the foundation started but have alot I want to do with it.  My hope is that all the extended family we have out there, that they will share they family events, days, pictures, etc for the whole family to share.

I'll collect some of the emails I don't have so I can share the blog with them.  My intention is for everyone to be able to post to the blog....so, i'm jumping in to get it started and we'll go from there.

Michelle and Ruby are working on a Ruby project for stories about Grandma. Be sure to email to Ruby or see Michelle while she is in Virginia. Not a story?  Just a blurb?  She'll take it.
